Communications and Roleplay

As I browse around the internet, I try to look for sources of interaction between roleplayers in a community enironment in real-time.  My goal is to break up the monotony of working on the computer with the occasional ‘lol’ or maybe a conversation about how to make D&D 4.0 a bit better.

My efforts, however, have come up dry.

Most of the IRC servers that scream advertise that they are active have fallen by the wayside, being nothing more than small groups of five to seven people who do nothing but hang out saying nothing.

I’m not saying that nothing isn’t interesting every now and again, I’m just saying it’s better to do nothing outside of IRC.

So, my question is: are there any IRC-type servers that are (1) more inclined to people who RP, and (2) aren’t asleep.

Of course, the third option may be worse: that IRC is dying and being replaced by a combination of blogs, forums, and Twitter.
